The Saturday after our October meeting members of the Mid Western branch spent the day learning a curved piecing technique taught by Lena Pugacheva from the Eastern Branch. We booked Clarina Community Centre for the day and had great fun playing with fabric.

Lena gave us the choice of some beautiful designs to make and the Elephant was the most popular.  Other options were a tulip, goldfish, dolphin or a landscape.

Thank you Lena for such a fun and instructive workshop.  Looking forward to seeing the blocks all together at our November meeting on the 9th.

Thank you to all who attended our workshop with Nikki last Saturday.  We had a fantastic day in Ballybrown Clarina Community Centre and were joined by members from Eastern, SouthMidlands and Western branches as well as our members in the Mid West.  Our next branch workshop is scheduled for October but there are plenty of exhibitions to see over the summer months.  Happy summer sewing everyone!

The Global Connection Sampler Platter Event is taking place again this weekend.

Saturday Oct 2, 2021 3-6pm (eastern) and Sunday Oct 3, 2021 3-6pm (eastern).  It starts at 8pm Irish time.

We are doing something a little different this time and taking you straight to a private Youtube livestream for our All-Star event instead of funneling everyone through a Zoom webinar.

This will avoid the inevitable confusion when the Zoom room fills up in the first minute  and viewers are re-directed to the youtube livestream. There will only be one link to click and the visual quality should be better for your viewers.

The links below will take you directly to the events live stream on youtube.  Note that there is a different link for each day.   If you have registered your guild for the event then please share both links with your guild members and tell them to save the links in a safe place so that they can easily find them on the day of the events. If you have registered as an individual then you may not share these links with anyone.

    Oct 2, 2021 3-6pm eastern: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=akdAaljqdOY

    Oct 3, 2021 3-6pm eastern: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=66VS4jTHbJ8

Please note that if the links are not clickable you may have to copy and paste them directly into your browser.

     Sampler Platter PDF

Included with your registration is a pdf document that has details and supporting documentation about each teachers demonstration.  You'll find that document here:

Win a Huge Prize Basket For Your Guild or Yourself!

To be eligible for the prize basket giveaway just watch the videos and fill out the scavenger hunt form that you'll find here by midnight (eastern) Sunday October 17th.

We'll be announcing the winner during a live-stream drawing on Monday October 18th.  We'll email you a Zoom link for the live-stream prize drawing in the next couple of weeks.

Fabric swap: Similar to the 2 1/2” squares swap that the branch did in 2015, we are going to hold a fabric swap of 5” squares or charm squares.

You can get 8 charm squares from a length of fabric so we hope to swap 80 squares (this may need to be revised when we finalise numbers!). If those interested can email midwestpatchwork@gmail.com or text Ruth on 086-8211105, we can work out the maths and let people know how many squares will be needed.

We hope to be able to use some of Gillian Killick’s fabric that her family kindly donated to Loretta for the branch use and be in a position to collect the fabric squares in our November and December meetings. Fabric will be sorted over the Christmas and given back in our January meeting with a date of June for a finished Quilt top!

There's lots of great ideas on the internet about half-square triangle quilt patterns.

This you-tube video shows 10 half-square triangle quilt layouts https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t_96wNVxCGQ

The Mid-West Branch are planning a workshop in November with Paula Rafferty on a Japanese method to make a Cathedral Windows piece using your sewing machine.

Please email midwestpatchwork@gmail.com or text Ruth on 086-8211105 to reserve a space on the workshop.

Once we have names and an idea of the numbers that want to attend, we will firm up a location and date.

Due to government Covid-19 restrictions we are unable to have an in person meeting in October so we will have a Zoom meeting instead.  We will have small & fun quick makes, Show and tell and the monthly challenge "Autumn".

After having a whole year on Zoom, we are really looking forward to getting together in person and are hoping to do so in November. The committee will be evaluating the space available to us, in Kilmurray Arts & Heritage Centre, in October and will advise members the soonest we can. In the meantime, we will be meeting on Zoom again in October.

Show and Tell needed for October meeting: Please send photos of your patchwork and quilt items to midwestpatchwork@gmail.com or text Ruth on 086-8211105.

The challenge for October is Autumn. We would love to see any pieces you have that would fit the theme, any size, any colour!

Villiers Nights: It was decided at our branch meeting in September to wait until January to look at sewing nights outside of the main meeting.

Door Fee: Last year, the branch expenses were paid from our savings. This year, we are asking members to resume paying the door fee for meetings online and in person. To minimise cash handling, we are requesting a bank transfer to the branch account of 20Euro to cover the 4 meetings Sept-Dec.

When paying by bank transfer please add your name to the payment and pay to: BIC AIBKIE2D

    IBAN IE17AIBK93551415943091
