AGM 2018

This year the Society AGM is being hosted on the 6th October  by the Mid-Western Branch in the Castletroy Park Hotel, Limerick.

The morning Session is for members only. 

In the afternoon we will have Guest Speaker Catherine Lawes who will also run a workshop on the following Sunday, 7th October, (see below for more information)

Irish Patchwork Society AGM

Saturday October 6th, 2016

Tea and coffee will be served from 9:30 am.  Registration at 10am.  Shops available for the full day.

This year's AGM will be held in the beautiful four star Castletroy Park Hotel, Limerick.  Entrance on University Gates Road near flags at gate of University of Limerick.  5 minute walk from bus stop on 304A route from Limerick Colbert Station.  Special Irish Patchwork rate from Castletroy Park Hotel 120 euro for double room (60 pp) or 95 for single room, rates are bed and breakfast inclusive.  Reserve directly with hotel at 061-335-566

The Mid Western Branch is pleased to announce fabric artist Catherine Lawes.  Catherine will give a talk titled "From Here to There and Back Again," inspired by her work and journey between the UK and New Zealand.   Catherine's work includes using traditional quilting methods in cottons, but also makes use of free cutting  construction methods using woollen fabrics, yarns, merino fleece, silks, chiffons and many other types of fabric.   She has a background in Architecture and design.

Exhibition featuring pieces by members of the Mid-West Branch "Best of the Mid-West" will take place on the day

AGM Challenge

Each year there is a challenge for all IPS members.  The winner is presented with the James Lawlor trophy, which features a quilter stitching away on a miniature quilt made by the most recent winner of the trophy.   All attendees will place a vote for the winner.   This year, the challenge is:  Star

You’re free to use any blocks using a Star block or otherwise inspired by the theme “Star.”  Quilt must be two layers of fabrics with batting between them and secured with quilting. Your quilting can be done by hand, machine, or both.  Finished size between 18 - 19 inches square including edging.

Sunday October 7th

 Layered Landscapes workshop with Catherine Lawes from 10am to 4pm at the Castletroy Park Hotel.   Using fabrics such as silks, chiffons and painted bondaweb, participants will use exotic fabrics to create small atmospheric landscapes.  Catherine will have a selection of fabrics available to draw upon and a cut matte board for ease of framing.   Materials fee to be divided among students, 10 euros maximum.  Suitable for those of all skill levels.   Sewing Machine not required.
